FAQ

Q: How much is it to test our employees?

A: Typically, little to nothing!  Covid-19 testing is typically covered by the employee’s insurance so the business will not incur the expense. 

Q: Why should I use a nurse for screening when I can just have an employee do this?

A: Utilizing an employee is not recommended for several reasons.

  • Error is minimized when proper thermometers are used by a trained Registered Nurse. In the work setting, high tech thermometers that read body temperature from the forehead, or from a distance, are notoriously prone to user error and require proper usage to be effective.
  • Employees and managers may be lax due to productivity deadlines and personal relationships with co-workers. Further, training employees to effectively self-screen or to screen their coworkers deflects time and money from ongoing operations. It requires 100% attendance and buy-in to be effective.
  • Screening is a high-risk activity as it requires close contact. It is best performed by a professional with training in disease control and prevention.

Q: Can I require my employees to be tested before coming back to work?

A: The situation is continually evolving, however the general view is that Covid-19 testing can be mandated.  

Q: Is it legal to screen my employees?

A: Compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires sensitivity to privacy issues. Employers must screen all staff equally to avoid issues of discrimination. A Registered Nurse who is not a stakeholder in the business is more likely to apply ‘stay at home’ or ‘go home’ ordinances evenly and without bias.
